Senior New Year

A new year means a fresh start, which presents a unique opportunity for seniors to implement habits that can allow them to become healthier and feel better. While many people around the world set resolutions at the beginning of the year, not everyone sees their goals all the way through to completion. Here are five things that can help get your senior’s new year off to the right start and create a routine to add longevity and live a healthier lifestyle!

Make Healthy Living Goals

Physical activity is safe and healthy for older adults, and many conditions can be improved with mild to moderate physical activity. Exercises such as water aerobics, walking, and stretching can also help your senior control their weight, strengthen their muscles and bones, and improve their mood.

Meet New People

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community. It provides a sense of accomplishment and brings fulfillment for seniors. Additionally, it connects your senior with like-minded individuals, which is excellent for their well-being. When it is safe this year, help them find an organization to get involved with and get plenty of social interaction.

Challenge the Brain Regularly

Staying mentally sharp is a high priority for many older adults. In fact, seniors are the fastest-growing segment of computer users! It might seem a bit intimidating at first, but once your senior is comfortable with the new technical surroundings, it becomes routine for them. Communication becomes easier!

Get Plenty of Rest

Sleep is essential for older adults. If your senior family member is having trouble sleeping, this year could be a great chance to adopt some new sleep habits or consult with a specialist to get to the bottom of their difficulties.

Be Conscious of Overall Health

Your senior’s body is always changing, so help them make it a priority to keep up with their health. Schedule their visit with their doctor annually to be proactive about their overall well-being.
